2013 Warrens Cranberry Festival Contests & Kiddie Parade

The Warrens Cranberry Festival has several contests and a Kiddie Parade available for entry this year.

  • 2013 Biggest Berry Contest
    • There are over 100 different varieties of cranberries and any variety may be entered in the contest.  Berries are judged by weight in grams rather than by volume.  In the case of a tie, the berries will be measured for overall length and diameter to determine a winner. 
    • Blue ribbons will be awarded for the largest in each variety/class and the Biggest Cranberry of Show will receive a $40 cash prize, sponsored by the Potter Cranberry Co., of Warrens, WI.

  • 2013 Vegetable & Sunflower Contest
    • This contest is open to the public and anyone is welcome to enter any vegetable or sunflower grown.  Please bring all vegetables thoroughly cleaned.  
    • Judges Choice ribbons will be given for the overall contest winners.  A gift will be given to the family or individual who has entered the vegetable contest the most in years past.

  • 2013 Scarecrow Contest
    • Create a scarecrow to show off at the Festival.  There are two categories of entry:  Most Unique and Traditional.  
    • 1st, 2nd and 3rd place ribbons will be awarded in each category and Best of Show will receive a $25 cash prize, sponsored by the Warrens Cranberry Festival.

  • 2013 Kiddie Parade
    • All Warrens and Tomah area children are invited to participate. There is no entry fee.  Decorate yourselves, bicycles, pets, etc., and join us for a fun-filled walk through Warrens.  
    • Children will begin at 11:45 a.m. (prior to the large parade) and a Festival representative will accompany the children on the parade route.

Warrens Cranberry Festival Quilt and Needlework Contest Rules

The Warrens Cranberry Festival Quilt and Needlework Contest rules are available now.

The Warrens Cranberry Festival will keep the same format of the Quilt and Needlework Contest as last year.  All entries will not be critiqued or judged by someone certified in quilting.

All entries will be displayed and Festival visitors will have the opportunity to vote for their favorites and a People’s Choice ribbon and gift will be awarded to the winner.  The Warrens Cranberry Festival Queen, Princesses and President will also select their favorites and the winners will also receive a ribbon and gift.

Acceptable entries include:  Bed Quilts and Crib Quilts (hand, machine or tied), Youth (under the age of 18) (quilts, wall hangings, and needlework), Wall Hangings (smaller than 42-inch width), Unclassified Quilted or Unquilted (pillows, table coverings, and clothing), Needlework (embroidery, crochet, counted cross stitch, and knitting) and Miscellaneous.  All Quilts must have
3-inch hanging sleeve on top back.

All entries must pre-register by September 13, 2013.  

This contest is open to the public and there is no entry fee.

Entries may be brought or mailed to the Warrens Cranberry Festival Office any time prior to the Festival.  All entries must be received by Monday, September 23, 2013, at the Festival Office (402 Pine Street, Warrens, WI) by 3:00 p.m.  Any entries received after this date and time will not be able to Participate in the Contest.


All entries will be on display Friday, September 27th and Saturday, September 28th from 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. and Sunday, September 29th, from 8 a.m. - 2 p.m., at the Wetherby Stone Building, on the corner of Hayes and Main Streets. 

Check out will be Sunday, September 29, 2012, between 2 p.m. - 3 p.m. in the Wetherby Cranberry Stone Building or within one week after the Festival at the Warrens Cranberry Festival Office (402 Pine Street, Warrens, WI).  

The winner of the People’s Choice, President’s, Queen’s and Princesses’ awards will be posted on the Festival website by Tuesday, October 1, 2013.  

All awards and prizes may be picked up when items are reclaimed.  Items will not be released without a valid claim check. 

The Warrens Cranberry Festival is not responsible for missing or lost items. Call the Festival Office with any questions at 608-378-4200. 

The Festival has the right to refuse any entries. Items are entered at your own risk.  The Festival provides monitoring during the day and the Wetherby Stone Building is securely locked at night.

Warrens Cranberry Festival Photography & Video Contest Rules Available Now

The Warrens Cranberry Festival Photography & Video Contest rules are available now.

Photography Contest:

This contest is for amateur photographers, one who cultivates any art or pursuit for the enjoyment of it, instead of professionally or for financial gain.  Color or black & white photos may be submitted.

Categories:
1. Wisconsin Cranberry Marsh (includes crop & harvest)                    
2. Highlight Pictures from Warrens Cranberry Festival
3. Wisconsin Flower & Plant Life
4. Wildlife of Wisconsin
5. Scenery of Wisconsin
6. People of Wisconsin

Prizes for 1st place will be a gift certificate in each category.  Best of Show, 1st, 2nd and 3rd place
winners will all receive a ribbon. The contest entry deadline is September 3, 2013. 


Video Contest:

Create your own video footage from this year’s Warrens Cranberry Festival.

All videos must
1. Be 30 seconds in length.
2. Be taken at the 2013 Warrens Cranberry Festival, in Warrens or mention the Festival.
3. Be submitted via YouTube - send your link of your video to cranfest@cranfest.com 

Videos will be judged on creativity, message clarity and relevance to the Warrens Cranberry Festival, and overall impact.  All winning videos will be placed on the Warrens Cranberry Festival’s YouTube Channel.

Beginning October 1, 2013, but prior to February 1, 2014.  Video registration forms can be retrieved from the Festival website.  Go to www.cranfest.com and click on the Events Tab, then click on the Contests Page, scroll down to the Video Contest to print and fill out the registration form.  Please fill out the registration form and agree to the terms and conditions.

Each participant or group may submit up to two (2) entries.  If the entry is a group submission, please designate one individual as the contact for the group; that person will be contacted to receive the award, if the group entry is selected.  Entries must be received no later than February 1, 2014.  Late entries will not be eligible for prizes.

The Warrens Cranberry Festival reserves the right to reject any or all videos based on content.  No
vulgarity, profanity or nudity is permitted.  This is a family festival and inappropriate material will not be tolerated.

Prizes:  1st place- $100 2nd place- $50 3rd place- $25

2013 Warrens Cranberry Festival Flower Contest

The Warrens Cranberry Festival Flower Contest Rules are available now.  

There are five categories of entry:  Fresh Flower/Dried Floral, Silk, Imagination, Cranberry and Wreath.  

Contestants may enter an item in up to three categories.

Contestants may bring their arrangements to the Warrens Cranberry Festival Office, 402 Pine Street, Warrens, on Monday, September 23rd through Thursday, September 26th, office hours are 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.

All arrangements MUST be at the contest site, Wetherby Stone Building, on the corner of Hayes & Main Streets, in Warrens, by 10:00 a.m., Friday, September 27th.  Any arrangements received after this time will not be eligible to enter.

Judging will take place on Friday, September 27, 2013, at 10:30 a.m.


There will be a 1st, 2nd and 3rd place ribbon awarded in each category.  Prizes and ribbons will be awarded for Best of Show, Most Unusual and Judges Choice Awards.

2013 Pictorial Cancellation Contest

The Warrens Cranberry Festival is accepting entries for the 2013 Pictorial Cancellation Contest.   


The Pictorial Cancellation will be a limited edition postmark unique to the Warrens Cranberry Festival.  The Festival was the first in the 546/559 zip codes to begin the special postmark.  

The winner of the Contest will receive a $25 cash prize sponsored by the Warrens Cranberry Festival.

The deadline for contest entries is August 15, 2013.  All entries must be postmarked by this date to qualify for judging.  

All entries will be judged by art professionals, cranberry growers, Warrens Cranberry Festival Board Members or people in the field of pictorial cancellation design.  Winners will be announced the week after judging.

2013 Warrens Cranberry Festival Scholarship Awarded

Warrens Cranberry Festival Awards the 2013 Scholarships
 
Each year, the Festival awards scholarships to local area students to help them achieve higher educational goals.  The awards were presented to five individuals on May 13, 2013, at the Tomah High School Scholarship Award Ceremony.
 
The recipients, listed below, each received a Warrens Cranberry Festival, Inc., Scholarship, in the amount of $500.

2013 Warrens Cranberry Festival Recipe Contest

2013 Warrens Cranberry Festival Recipe Contest

Submit your favorite recipes with either fresh or processed cranberries as the star of the show, for a chance to win prizes.

This year's theme - Cook With Your Favorite Color - Royal Cranberry!

There are two categories of entry:  Fresh and Processed 

Contestants can enter a maximum of two recipes in each category.

Create a unique original recipe that contains fresh or processed cranberries, choose an appetizer, bread, main dish, dessert, snack, beverage, salad, soup, jam, jelly and the list goes on and on. 

The contest is open to all cooks, 8 years of age or older, except professional chefs.  You do not need to be a Wisconsin resident to enter.

All entries must be received by midnight, May 31, 2013, to qualify.

Contest Prizes:  Six prizes of $75, $50, and $25 Visa Gift Cards, sponsored by the Farmers and Merchants Bank of Tomah and Warrens, will be awarded to the first, second and third place winners in each category. Kitchen Craft Cookware will also award each winner in both categories a piece of cookware.

Winners of the 2012 Warrens Cranberry Festival Video Contest Chosen

Warrens Cranberry Festival announces the winners of the 2012 Video Contest.

Hunter Hart, Tomah, WI - won 1st Prize
Donavon Gomez, Tomah, WI - won 2nd Prize

Both Hunter and Donavon attend the Tomah High School and submitted their entries as part of a class project in the Advanced Media Production Class.  The Media Productions is an advanced class which allows students to learn video productions ranging from scripts and storyboards to documentaries and other media.  The class is taught by Brian Kibby.

The Video Contest gives individuals the opportunity to create their own video using footage from the Warrens Cranberry Festival.

The videos can be no longer than 2 minutes in length, must be taken at the Warrens Cranberry Festival, and submitted in .avi, .mov, .mpg or .wmv format.

Prizes awarded: 
1st Place - $100
2nd Place - $50
3rd Place - $25

2013 Warrens Cranberry Festival Parade Marshals

The Warrens Cranberry Festival is pleased to announce the 2013 Parade Marshals are the Marsh Tour Bus Guides.

The Parade Marshal designation is given to the individual, family or group that has made an impactful contribution to the Festival.

This year the Festival is honoring the Marsh Tour Bus Guides, for their years of dedication and devotion to the Festival.
